On July 27, 2018, Perspectium received confirmation that it complies with the Privacy Shield principles for the transfer of European personal data to the United States. The framework was designed by the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Commerce, and it's goal is to provide both U.S. and European companies with a mechanism to comply with the EU data protection requirements when transferring personal data from the European Union to the U.S. This is great news for our customers, providing them with an even better data transfer mechanism than the Safe Harbor privacy framework overturned in 2015.

Privacy Shield Replaces Safe Harbor

The Privacy Shield is the new European Commission-approved mechanism that enables the transfer of personal data from Europe to the U.S. in compliance with European data protection law. As the successor to Safe Harbor, Privacy Shield introduces stronger obligations on the handling of data and provides greater protections for individuals. The Privacy Shield Framework has retained much of the Safe Harbor framework, while adding additional requirements. The new requirements include new limits and oversight mechanisms when using Europeans’ data, an advocate to handle complaints about intelligence-related matters, and tightened restrictions on forwarding Europeans’ personal data to other companies.
